There’s something powerful about a harbor.

It’s a place of shelter. A place where people can find safety, rest, and belonging. It’s also a place of departure—a place where new journeys begin and possibilities stretch beyond the horizon.

That’s what we want Harbor Theatrics to be.

Harbor Theatrics was born from Valley Park Community Theatre and everything we learned while building theatre within our community. We’re proud of where we started, the productions we created, and the people who helped us grow. But as our work expanded, we realized that our name needed to grow with us.

Harbor Theatrics represents who we are now—and who we’re working to become.

Everyone Has a Place

Our tagline isn’t simply a marketing phrase. It’s a promise:

Everyone has a place.

Theatre should never feel like a closed circle. It shouldn’t belong only to the people with the longest résumés, the loudest voices, the biggest budgets, or the right connections.

We believe theatre belongs to everyone.

There’s a place here for the experienced performer who has spent decades onstage. There’s a place for the person walking into their first audition. There’s a place for directors, designers, technicians, stage managers, playwrights, musicians, volunteers, audience members, and anyone who simply wants to be part of something meaningful.

There’s a place for people who have always felt at home in the theatre—and for people who have spent their lives wondering whether they would be welcomed there.

At Harbor Theatrics, we want the answer to be yes.

Theatre Built Through Community

Community theatre is more than theatre performed near a community. It should be theatre created with that community.

That means opening doors instead of guarding them. It means recognizing potential, encouraging growth, and giving people real opportunities to contribute. It means treating every person involved in a production with dignity and respecting the time, talent, and heart they bring into the room.

It also means creating work that reflects the world around us.

We want to tell stories that entertain audiences, start conversations, challenge expectations, and remind people that they aren’t alone. Some productions will make you laugh. Others may make you uncomfortable, ask difficult questions, or stay with you long after the lights come up.

The best theatre does more than fill a stage. It creates a connection.

A Home for Artists and New Work

Harbor Theatrics is committed to producing established plays and musicals while also creating opportunities for new voices.

Through programs such as the Safe Harbor Play Festival and the Harbor New Musical Initiative, we’re building space for playwrights and composers to develop original work, receive thoughtful feedback, and see their stories move closer to the stage.

New work is essential to the future of theatre. The stories audiences will love tomorrow are being written today—often by artists waiting for someone to take their work seriously.

We want to be one of the places that does.

We also believe artists deserve room to learn. Not every person arrives with the same experience, resources, or training. What matters is the willingness to work, grow, collaborate, and support the people around you.

Theatre becomes stronger when we stop treating opportunity as something that must be hoarded.

Our First Season

Our inaugural season reflects the kind of theatre we hope to build: welcoming, ambitious, varied, and rooted in storytelling.

We’ll begin with Gooseberry Lane by Jim Danek, followed by Jeff Daniels’ Guest Artist. In January, we’ll present the backstage comedy Good Show, Everybody, followed in May by the Safe Harbor Play Festival. We’ll close the season in summer 2027 with a musical selected through the Harbor New Musical Initiative.

Across these productions, audiences will experience comedy, drama, original work, and stories that celebrate the strange, difficult, hilarious, and deeply human experience of creating something together.

This is only the beginning.

You don’t need to know exactly where you fit before you walk through the door.

Maybe your place is under the spotlight. Maybe it’s backstage, in the booth, behind a sewing machine, holding a paintbrush, reading a new script, helping with concessions, or sitting in the audience as the lights begin to dim.

Harbor Theatrics isn’t being built by one person or for one kind of artist. It will be shaped by every person who joins us, shares an idea, attends a performance, volunteers their time, takes a creative risk, or invites someone new into the room.

We’re building more than a theatre company. We’re building a community where people can create boldly, grow honestly, and know that their presence matters.
